When Nokia Mobile Phones decided to move the Aalborg research and development department to Copenhagen, the outcome could have been a transfer for 20 employees and their families.
However, only a few people accepted the job offer to be transferred to one of the other Nokia departments around the world; 13 employees decided to go their own way. With CEO Michael Aaen in the lead, quick action was taken and on the 1st of October 2001 WirTek ApS was ready to start business with 11 employees and signed employment contracts for three more.
The first customer contract was already put into place from the start. WirTek ApS had entered into a two-digit million DKK framework agreement with Nokia for the delivery of consultant services in the mobile browser technology area. In parallel to this agreement with Nokia, WirTek ApS will concentrate on developing technologies within wireless services with an emphasis on “customer care”. WirTek ApS wants to make it possible for the normal mobile terminal customer to use and understand the many services that are offered by mobile phones and mobile operators. WirTek ApS expects to increase its staff to 16 employees within the first six months of 2002.
